Shearman & Sterling Recognized in IAM Patent 1000

IAM Patent 1000 recognized Shearman & Sterling’s IP Litigation and IP Transactions practices in its 2020 rankings.

The publication highlighted IP litigation partners Mark Hannemann and Thomas Makin’s work for clients Nichia and OSRAM in a major ITC investigation, also noting that they have “distinguished themselves as top trade secret litigators” and “cultivated their skillset in this burgeoning area, [drawing] astutely on the expertise of other divisions of the firm for nuanced cases.”

On the IP transactions side, the publication highlighted partner Jordan Altman, who they say “negotiates complex deal terms with silky skill” and “is incredibly agile, forward thinking and solutions oriented.”

Partner Emma Maconick was given great credit for her high performance on IP transactions. She was recognized for being sensitive to clients’ risk profiles. “She deftly negotiates deals in the fintech, data and cloud computing areas, among others,” the publication noted.

The IAM Patent 1000 is commonly regarded as the definitive ‘go-to’ resource for those seeking to identify world-class, private practice patent expertise and leading expert witnesses in the US.
